Cardiff Devils
Ice Extravaganza Event
13th of March 2022
On Sunday the 13th of March, 500 members of Girlguiding Cymru visited Ice Arena Wales.
They all had the opportunity to try Ice Skating. They were supported and inspired by The Cardiff Comets Women's Ice Hockey Team. After the fun of Ice Skating, the members were ready to watch The Cardiff Devils Ice Hockey Team Vs Coventry Blaze. The event was organised by Sadie Mansfield who was supported by a wonderful team of leaders.
Deputy Commissioner Sarah-Jane Burns said: I was thrilled to see so many girls and leaders welcomed back to the ice in Cardiff arena. Seeing so many smiling faces and faces lit up when the girls could see we were on going to skate on the main arena, made the experience even more special. It was our first major event since COVID-19, and it meant that Guiding memories could be made in person once again. I was thrilled and honoured to be part of promise ceremonies carried out on the ice.
As I was about the leave the ice one brownie asked me ‘can we do this again next week, that was so much fun.’
The fun didn’t stop there, we cheered the Devils into a win. The energy from the girls was just electric, looking around the arena and seeing them up cheering and dancing when goals were scored. Thank you to all service team and all the leaders and volunteers who made this day so special.
Thank you to the Cardiff Comets for supporting the girls with their skates and giving them confidence to embrace the ice. I think you may have a few extra fans at your games in the future. Thank you, Cardiff Arena, and the fantastic staff, for allowing us to host this event and making us feel so welcome.
Here is what some of the girls and Leaders thought about the day
Gracie age 8 - I loved it when the lights went out in the arena and it turned red at the start of the game, the banging on the boards. I can’t wait till we go again.
Jenna aged 8 - I love the ice skating and helping others, can we go again?
Esme aged 9 - I learned some new tricks on the ice and would love to do again.
Lottie aged 9 - I liked it at the end when the goalkeeper was bashing into the screens!
Rhiannon, Brownie Leader - I forgot how much I enjoyed watching the games, I came home last night and have booked to go to see a few more games.
Carol, Guide Leader - Can we thank you for a wonderful day- this was the 3rd Devils game we have been to. I loved the badge, my blanket is looking very colourful, and we loved the purple this year.
