Produced in partnership with Dwr Cymru Welsh Water

Welcome to the Make Every Drop Count Challenge!
Water is one of the most important resources on Earth – and every drop really does count. This special challenge pack and badge has been created by Girlguiding Cymru and Dwr Cymru Welsh Water to help you discover why saving water is so important, and how you can make a big difference in small ways every day.

Did you know that although our planet looks full of water, only 1% of it is fresh water that we can actually use? And as our world grows, more people need clean water – so it’s up to all of us to help protect it!

We also have a Welsh language version of the pack coming soon: Watch this space!

About Dwr Cymru Welsh Water

Dwr Cymru is a not-for-profit company that provides clean, safe drinking water to millions of people across Wales. They're all about looking after our water – from the mountains and reservoirs to your tap! They also work hard to treat and return used water safely to the environment.

Through their fun and interactive water education programme, Dwr Cymru helps girls learn how water gets to us, how it's cleaned, and most importantly – how we can all use less of it. Because when we save water, we help protect rivers, wildlife, and our planet.

Who is it for?

The challenge pack is aimed primarily at Rainbows and Brownies but can be completed by older sections if you wish.

Your challenge: Make every drop count

This challenge is split into three exciting sections – and once you’ve completed them, you’ll earn a brilliant new badge to show you’re a true water-saving hero!

Section 1: Learn the importance of saving water

Time to get curious! In this section, you’ll explore where water comes from, why it’s in danger, and how climate change and wasteful habits are putting pressure on our supply.

Activities include:

  • Investigating the water cycle

  • Finding out how much water you use in a day

  • Learning surprising facts about water use in your home and community

Section 2: Water-saving activities

Now that you know why saving water is important, it’s time to take action! These hands-on activities will help you build good habits and become a water-saving champion.

Fun activities include:

  • Making Dewi Droplet’s paper home

  • Designing a poster

  • Making water saving pledges

  • Using the water saving calculator

Section 3: Earn Your Badge

You’ve learned, explored, and taken action – now it's time to celebrate! When you complete the challenge, you can order your Make Every Drop Count badge for just 50p from the Girlguiding Cymru shop. Show it off with pride – you’ve earned it!

Let’s Make Every Drop Count – Together!

With your passion and creativity, you can inspire your friends, family, and community to save water too. Whether it’s fixing a dripping tap, reusing rainwater in the garden, or simply taking a quicker shower – it all helps.

The launch event

On 5 July 2025, the Girlguiding Cymru Dwr Cymru: Make Every Drop Count Challenge was officially launched at the Girlguiding Cymru 2025 North Wales Event, held at Xplore! in Wrexham.

The exciting new challenge pack was unveiled and shared with girls and leaders in attendance by Girlguiding Cymru Chief Commissioner Bev Martin, Assistant Chief Commissioner Alice Cleave, and Courtney Miles from Dwr Cymru. This collaborative initiative aims to inspire young members to learn about the importance of water conservation and how every drop truly counts.

We’re so excited to launch the Make Every Drop Count Challenge with Dŵr Cymru. It’s a fun and inspiring way for our girls to learn how they can help look after water and make a real difference in their everyday lives.

I especially loved making Dewi Droplet’s paper home!
