Girlguiding Cymru North Wales Brings Science to Life at Xplore! Wrexham
On the weekend of Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th July 2025, Girlguiding members from across North Wales gathered for two exciting days of fun, friendship, and hands-on learning at the Xplore! Science Discovery Centre in Wrexham.
Girls from every section, Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers—came together to take part in this unforgettable STEM-themed adventure, packed with discovery and creativity.
A Journey Through Science
Once inside the vibrant science centre, girls were invited to explore over 80 interactive STEM exhibits. From building structures to testing physical forces, the activities sparked curiosity and encouraged everyone to think like a scientist. Each corner of the centre offered new discoveries, with girls eagerly moving from one station to the next, experimenting, building, and learning through play.
Slime, Shows, and Shared Smiles
One of the biggest hits of the day was slime-making, a fun, hands-on way to explore the basics of chemistry (and get a little messy too!). With glitter, colour, and creativity flowing, it was the perfect blend of learning and laughter.
The excitement didn’t end there. Girls also gathered for a live science show filled with dramatic experiments, spectacular reactions, and moments of awe. It was a highlight for many and showed that science can be just as entertaining as it is educational.
Outdoor Fun and New Friendships
Between activities, there was plenty of time to enjoy the fresh air with outdoor games. A lively game of table tennis drew cheers and friendly competition, while girls also took the chance to meet others from units across North Wales. For many, it was a special opportunity to connect, share stories, and build new friendships across sections and counties.
A Sneak Peek at a New Challenge
The weekend also featured a first look at the brand new Girlguiding Cymru Make Every Drop Count Challenge Pack, developed in partnership with Dwr Cymru Welsh Water. The pack focuses on water, the environment, and sustainability. Topics that are close to many girls’ hearts. Leaders and members alike were excited to explore the new resources and start planning their next activities.
From sparking scientific curiosity to building friendships and trying something new, the Girlguiding Cymru North Wales weekend at Xplore! was a celebration of everything guiding is about, learning, fun, and adventure together.
