Girlguiding Cymru launches new challenge in partnership with Cadw to celebrate Welsh heritage
The Castell cariad challenge is a new initiative from Girlguiding Cymru and Cadw, which aims to encourage girls and volunteers to explore castles and other historic sites in Wales as well as a range of fun history activities.
Girls who complete the challenge can receive a certificate and a badge.
The Castell cariad challenge is a great way for girls of all sections to learn about the history of Wales, have fun, and make new friends. It is also a great way to encourage girls to get outdoors and explore their local area.
Visit a castle
As part of the challenge Cadw invite you to find a site near you, be it staffed with facilities, or an open site, and connect - Explore the history and stories with your group.
Get creative, explore the nature, or just enjoy the calmness of the spaces and the echoes of the past that resonate in the stones around you. However you come, you are welcome.
As part of the guiding family, your group can access Cadw charged sites free of charge if you book in advance under our Education visits offer. But many sites are open and free all year round anyway. Come and explore. We look forward to welcoming you soon!
But – please check - not all castles are in Cadw’s care, some are privately owned, others are in local authority care, and others are with other heritage bodies, so do check as while they can be equally good, those run by others may have different access offers.
See the accessibility section of the pack to learn more about the suitability of each site.
