A day of dance and friendship: Girlguiding Cymru Street dance workshop in Brymbo

On Sunday, September 15th, the Brymbo Enterprise Centre was alive with rhythm as Girlguiding Cymru hosted a vibrant street dance workshop in partnership with UDOIT! Dance. Over 80 enthusiastic Brownies and Guides from more than 20 units across North Wales gathered for a full day dedicated to honing their street dance skills and forging lasting friendships.

A Dynamic day of learning

The workshop kicked off at 10 AM, welcoming participants with high energy and excitement. Led by skilled instructors from UDOIT! Dance, the day was packed with engaging sessions covering various street dance styles, including hip-hop and breakdancing. The girls were encouraged to express themselves creatively while mastering new moves, fostering a sense of accomplishment and joy.

Laughter and music filled the air as groups practiced together, embodying the spirit of teamwork and support that is central to Girlguiding. Throughout the day, the participants not only learned choreography but also built confidence and resilience, with instructors emphasising the importance of cheering each other on.

Celebrating achievement and friendship

As the workshop progressed, the excitement culminated in a mini performance where each group showcased their routines. Participants were eagerly demonstrating their skills and celebrating their hard work. Girlguiding Cymru’s Chief Commissioner, Bev Martin, watched with pride, beaming as the girls took to the floor.

“I am incredibly proud of each and every one of you for your dedication and talent,” she remarked during the closing ceremony. “It’s wonderful to see you all perform with such enthusiasm and teamwork.” Bev also had the honor of presenting a Silver Brownie Award, recognising a member’s outstanding contributions and achievements within the organisation.

A successful collaboration

Feedback from participants and leaders highlighted the event’s success in promoting not only dance skills but also the values of friendship and collaboration inherent in Girlguiding. Many girls expressed excitement about continuing their dance journeys and participating in future workshops, underscoring the positive impact of the day.

The partnership between Girlguiding Cymru and UDOIT! Dance proved to be a fantastic blend of expertise and passion, creating an enriching experience for all involved.

Looking ahead

As the day concluded at 3:30 PM, the smiles on the girls’ faces reflected the joy and friendships formed throughout the event. With plans for future workshops already in discussion, the success of this street dance event has set a high standard for upcoming activities. We hope to organise the next event in the Cardiff area.

The Brymbo street dance workshop not only equipped the girls with new skills but also strengthened their sense of community and belonging. It was a day filled with fun, friendship, and dance—one that will surely resonate with the participants for years to come.
