History of Breconshire

Guiding began in Wales from 1909 onwards. In 1917 a special meeting was held in Church house in Brecon. The meeting was chaired by Mrs J Evans.
They were joined by Miss Behrens, who was the assistant chief commissioner to Lady Baden Powell.
The meeting was a success and the first unit in Brecon began.

In 1918, guider Miss EA Jones perished whilst at Ffwrdgrech despite the efforts of her guiding sisters. The tragedy deeply affected guiders in the area. News report.
