Girlguiding Cymru UDOIT! Dance street dance event: A day of creativity and fun

On Saturday, 29 March 2025, Girlguiding Gwent hosted the exciting Girlguiding Cymru UDOIT! Dance Street Dance event at Haberdashers' Monmouth School. The event was a resounding success, with 250 participants from across Gwent coming together for a full-day workshop filled with energy, creativity, and fun.

The workshop brought together Brownies, Guides, Rangers, and Young Leaders, all united by a shared passion for dance and movement. Throughout the day, the participants were guided by street dance instructors from UDOIT! Dance who led them through a series of street dance routines and techniques. The atmosphere was exciting and dynamic, with everyone, from the Brownies to the Young leaders, fully engaging in the experience. The leaders also showed their moves!

The event was made possible thanks to the generous support of Sport Wales and The National Lottery. Their funding and backing ensured that the event was accessible to a wide range of participants and helped cover the costs of bringing in top-tier dance professionals and transport. The event encouraged physical activity and creativity.

Deputy chief commissioner, Sarah-Jane Burns attended the event and proudly learned some street dance events along with Girlguiding Gwent county commissioner Dawn Waddell Clayton.

The workshop sessions were designed to cater to all levels of experience, with each participant being challenged to step out of their comfort zone and embrace the thrill of street dance. Beyond learning new dance moves, the event allowed the participants to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and form lasting friendships with fellow Girlguiding members.

At the end of the workshop, the girls showcased their skills in a vibrant performance, demonstrating the choreography they had mastered throughout the day. It was a fantastic celebration of the hard work, dedication, and spirit of teamwork that had been fostered during the event.

The UDOIT! Dance Street Dance Event not only highlighted the creativity and enthusiasm of Girlguiding Cymru’s members but also reinforced the importance of providing young people with opportunities to engage in physical activity, learn new skills, and have fun in a supportive environment.

Girlguiding Cymru would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to The leaders and commissioners from Girlguiding Gwent, UDOIT! Dance, Sport Wales, and The National Lottery, who made the event such a success.

The UDOIT! Dance Street Dance Event was a memorable day for all involved, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the participants in the future.

We just wanted to say a huge Thank You for allowing us to host the UDOIT Dance Event in Gwent. It was a great success and the feedback from the many units that took part, was that all who came really enjoyed it!

The event enabled 250 members to attend and have a great experience either participating and strutting their stuff, making new friends from other units or watching from the wings and enjoying the show .

It also meant that some girls who would never have had the opportunity to try this or experience a county event like this could take part . I’m truly grateful for that .
