May 2022 / Rebecca joins Unit 87

Hey! I’m Rebecca and I am so excited to have been selected as one of the leaders for Unit 87 who are going to WSJ Korea next year! I have been in guiding since I was a Brownie myself and went through each section until I eventually ended up as the leader in charge of the unit I first started with! I have thoroughly enjoyed everything Girlguiding has offered me and enabled me to do.

I have been incredibly fortunate to have visited all 5 world centres thanks to getting the travel bug at 14 when I was selected for an INTOPS trip to Mexico. Girlguiding has allowed me to make some amazing friends from these international adventures and I can’t wait for the unit to experience the same.

Girlguiding has opened so many doors and experiences for myself so all I want to do is help open those doors for everyone else. I ran the London Marathon for Girlguiding in 2021 because I wanted to raise money for the organisation that gave me courage to do anything I set my mind to. Girlguiding helped me move 366 miles away from my home town in Devon because I knew I would never be alone because we are all one big family and that I would be able to make friends.

I cannot wait to help the unit experience a brand new country and their traditions. It is going to be a life changing trip and to be able to watch the girls go through that and enjoy it is why I became a leader in general and on the trip. It is going to be a truly unique experience and I hope to make it a memorable one for them all.

World Thinking Day 2022

Carol from the International team reports.
Girlguiding Cymru received a request to meet up with some Girl Scouts from Minnesota USA for Thinking Day. Our Patrol for the WSJ and their Leader joined with the Girl Scouts and their Leader. We met girls from all levels from Daisies to Cadets and shared stories, questions, and answers, played a game and sang taps. It was lovely to see that while we used different words at times, we have some much in common and how much Girlguiding unites us all. We have sent them some badges (patches) and have been promised some cookies 😊
