Deeside Dragons Ice Extravaganza Event
Sunday 30 November 2025
Girlguiding Cymru members from across Wales enjoyed an unforgettable day of ice skating and hockey action at Deeside Leisure Centre & Ice Arena on Sunday 30 November 2025, thanks to a special event delivered in partnership with the Deeside Dragons and Sport Wales.
Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers descended on the arena for the Girlguiding Cymru Deeside Dragons Ice Extravaganza, stepping into a venue transformed into a magical winter wonderland. Festive decorations, sparkling lights and seasonal touches set the scene from the moment they arrived, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement and Christmas cheer.
The fun began as members took to the ice for a Christmas disco skating session. For many of the girls, it was their very first time on the ice, and the air was alive with laughter, music and a mix of nervous anticipation and growing confidence. With encouragement from leaders and volunteers, many quickly found their balance and were soon gliding proudly around the rink.
Following the skating session, girls and leaders settled into the stands for the main event: a thrilling Deeside Dragons game against Leeds Knights 2. The atmosphere was electric as cheers echoed around the arena, with many experiencing the excitement of a live ice hockey match for the first time. The festive surroundings only added to the sense of occasion, making it a truly memorable spectacle.
The event was a resounding success, creating lasting memories for everyone who attended.
This special day highlights Girlguiding Cymru’s commitment to providing girls with opportunities for fun, adventure and personal growth. By working in partnership with organisations such as the Deeside Dragons and Sport Wales, Girlguiding Cymru continues to offer unique experiences that broaden horizons and inspire confidence. The event was supported by National Lottery funding.

“ It was fantastic to work with the staff and volunteers at the leisure centre, and we really hope this is the beginning of many more opportunities to collaborate there in the future. The whole venue looked wonderfully festive, and the winter wonderland decorations brought smiles to everyone’s faces that lasted all day.
Although we haven’t been able to hold as many events in the north recently, the girls certainly made their presence known. They didn’t need much encouragement to get involved and show their support. Huge thanks to Rachael, volunteers Alice, Megan and Ann, and all the leaders who brought their girls along to what we hope was a truly memorable and successful day.”
