Cardiff Devils
Ice Extravaganza Event
Saturday, 11th Oct 2025

On the 11th of October 2025, the Cardiff Devils' home ice transformed into a vibrant sea of Girlguiding colours as hundreds of Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Young Leaders, and dedicated volunteers descended upon the arena for a truly unforgettable experience. The "Cardiff Devils Ice Extravaganza" proved to be a resounding success, offering a unique blend of icy fun and thrilling sporting action.

The day began with an energetic ice skating session. The ice rink buzzed with excitement as girls of all ages took to the ice, some experiencing the thrill for the first time, others showcasing their impressive skating skills. Laughter and cheers echoed around the arena as participants gracefully glided (or perhaps wobbled!) across the ice, creating lasting memories.

Our friends, the Cardiff Comets, were very much missed at this event. Unfortunately, they were unable to join us as they were away fulfilling a playing commitment; on 11 October 2025, the Cardiff Comets’ Frank Wright Conference team travelled to play an away game against the Coventry Phoenix. We send them our best wishes and look forward to welcoming them back to a future Girlguiding Cymru event.

Following the invigorating skate, the girls enjoyed a well-deserved tea break, sharing stories and laughter as they anticipated the main event. Many of the girls got to meet Taz the Cardiff Devils mascot.

As the lights dimmed and the roar of the crowd intensified, the highly anticipated Cardiff Devils versus Coventry Blaze ice hockey match commenced. The girls, decked out in their Girlguiding uniforms, cheered with enthusiasm, their voices adding to the already vibrant atmosphere. The fast-paced action, the skillful plays, and the sheer energy of the game captivated the audience, providing an unforgettable sporting spectacle. The Devils, fuelled by the enthusiastic support from the Girlguiding crowd, put on a thrilling show. Cardiff Devils edged past visitors Coventry Blaze as their Elite League (EIHL) campaign kicked off with a 3-0.

The "Cardiff Devils Ice Extravaganza" was more than just a day out; it was an opportunity for girls and young women from across Girlguiding Cymru to come together, experience something new, and create lasting bonds. The event fostered a sense of community, encouraged physical activity, and provided a platform for girls to experience the thrill of live sports. The event was a massive success.

This event highlights the commitment of Girlguiding Cymru to providing girls with opportunities for fun, adventure, and personal growth. By partnering with organisations like the Cardiff Devils and Sport Wales, Girlguiding Cymru is able to offer unique experiences that broaden horizons and create memories that will last a lifetime.

We are also incredibly grateful to Sport Wales and The National Lottery for their generous funding, which made this unforgettable experience possible. Their support in empowering young women through physical activity is invaluable.
