Flip, balance and shine with the Girlguiding Cymru Welsh Gymnastics challenge!

Girlguiding Cymru is excited to launch its brand-new Gymnastics Challenge, created in partnership with Welsh Gymnastics and designed to inspire girls and young women to get moving, try something new and discover the joy of gymnastics.

The challenge was officially launched at Sophia Gardens on Friday 18 September, where 16 Girlguiding Cymru members from several units had the exciting opportunity to meet members of the Welsh national gymnastics team.

The girls and young women who attended included gymnasts, trampolinists and members who simply have an interest in gymnastics. They were proud to meet the Welsh team, hear about their experiences and take part in some gymnastics training alongside them.

Girlguiding Cymru Deputy Chief Commissioner Caryn was also there to represent Girlguiding Cymru and celebrate the launch of this exciting new resource.

Something for everyone

Created in partnership with Welsh Gymnastics, the pack introduces members to the exciting world of gymnastics through fun, inclusive and engaging activities.

It explores a wide range of gymnastics disciplines, including artistic, rhythmic, trampoline, double mini trampoline (DMT), tumbling and acrobatic gymnastics, as well as encouraging members to discover the many different ways they can enjoy being active.

The activities include movement challenges, quizzes, puzzles, creative activities, games and opportunities to learn more about gymnastics and Welsh gymnasts. Activities can be adapted for different ages and abilities, meaning everyone can take part, have fun and celebrate what their body can do.

There is even an optional opportunity to visit a local gymnastics club and experience a session with qualified coaches. This is not required to complete the challenge, recognising that access to gymnastics opportunities varies across Wales.

Gymnastics has been such an important part of my life, from being a gymnast at Llanelli Gymnastics Club to discovering my love of trampolining. In adulthood I have watched my own daughter flourish in Gymnastics too.

I wanted to create a challenge that could share that passion with Girlguiding members and show them just how many different sides there are to gymnastics.

Whether you’re already a gymnast, want to try something new, or simply enjoy having fun and being active, I hope this pack inspires you to have a go, build your confidence and discover something you love.”

It was amazing to take part in the launch on Friday. The team and the facilities in Sophia Gardens were fantastic. The team were so warm and encouraging to all the girls! I am excited to do this pack with my unit.
