Girlguiding Cymru Members give ice skating a go before Cardiff Devils' victory

The Vindico Arena was once again awash with Girlguiding Cymru colours on 28 February 2026 as members from across Wales came together for another unforgettable Cardiff Devils Ice Extravaganza.

Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Young Leaders and volunteers from across Wales gathered at the Vindico Arena for a day combining ice skating with the excitement of live Elite League ice hockey.

The day began with a special ice skating session exclusively for Girlguiding members. From first-time skaters carefully finding their feet to confident skaters racing around the rink with friends, the arena was filled with laughter, determination and plenty of smiles.

Providing support and encouragement throughout the session were the fantastic Cardiff Comets Women's Ice Hockey Team. Their players were on hand to share tips, build confidence and help girls make the most of their time on the ice. Their enthusiasm and encouragement inspired many participants to try something completely new and discover a sport they may never have experienced before.

Of course, no Girlguiding Cymru event would be complete without plenty of opportunities to capture the moment. Our ever-popular Girlguiding Cymru selfie frames were once again a huge hit, with girls and volunteers queuing up to take photos with friends and create keepsakes from a fantastic day out.

After an energetic session on the ice, everyone enjoyed a well-earned break to tuck into packed lunches or grab a quick bite to eat before the excitement of the evening got underway.

As match time approached, the atmosphere inside the arena began to build. Hundreds of Girlguiding members took their seats alongside Cardiff Devils supporters, ready to cheer on the home team. The sea of guiding uniforms in the stands certainly made an impact, and the noise levels rose with every attack, save and goal.

The girls were treated to a brilliant performance from the Cardiff Devils, who secured an impressive 5-0 victory over the Fife Flyers. The fast-paced action, incredible skill and electric atmosphere had everyone on the edge of their seats, with each Devils goal celebrated enthusiastically by the Girlguiding crowd.

One of the most special aspects of the Ice Extravaganza is the opportunity it provides for girls from every corner of Wales to come together. Whether making new friends on the ice, sharing lunch with members from other units or supporting the Devils side-by-side from the stands, the event showcased the very best of the Girlguiding community.

The Ice Extravaganza is about so much more than watching a hockey match. It gives girls the chance to try a new activity in a safe and supportive environment, build confidence, challenge themselves and create lasting memories with friends old and new.

A huge thank you goes to the Cardiff Comets Women's Ice Hockey Team for supporting the skating session and helping make the experience so special. We are also incredibly grateful to Cardiff Devils for their continued partnership and for providing another memorable event for our members.

From first wobbles on the ice to celebrating a five-goal Devils victory, the 2026 Ice Extravaganza was a day full of adventure, friendship and fun, everything that Girlguiding Cymru is all about.

We are also incredibly grateful to Sport Wales and The National Lottery for their generous funding, which made this unforgettable experience possible. Their support in empowering young women through physical activity is invaluable.
