Role

Girlguiding Cymru Trustee

My bio

I have been a Ranger leader for over 30 years, first in Buckinghamshire and then in Gwent. I moved to Monmouth almost 20 years ago and a big part of my Guiding life in that time has been supporting girls to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. I have been Girlguiding Cymru’s DofE adviser for the past 3 years and love being out and about on expedition with the Gwent team.

Previously, I have held a number of national and local roles. I was International Commissioner from 2006-2011, which enabled me to travel to 2 World Conferences in South Africa and Jordan. These are amazing events where you get to meet members from all over the world and find out about how Guiding works in their countries. From 2016-2021 I was a Trustee on the UK Board of Trustees. During this time, I worked on the rewording of The Promise and the splitting of the role of Chief Guide into Chief Guide - as the lead volunteer for members and the Chair of Board who has responsibility for running the board.

My role as a trustee for Girlguiding Cymru will draw on my previous experience whilst also giving me new questions to debate and answer. The work of a trustee can seem distant to the work of leaders in units, however, it is the duty of trustees to work in the best interests of members to make sure the organisation is run efficiently and to meet the needs of members. This is forefront in my mind when making decisions as a trustee.
