Castle Capers Activity Day at Gwrych Castle, and Castle capers camp at Ty Clwyd
The Girlguiding Cymru Castle capers event at Gwrych Castle in Abergele was attended by Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers from all over Wales.
Guides and Rangers also had the chance to attend the Castle capers camp at Ty Clwyd campsite in Llanfairtalhaiarn.
Fun at the castle
The Castle Capers event at Gwrych Castle gave over 700 girls the opportunity to take part in a full day of activities, including drumming, heritage crafts, and exploring the castle grounds. The girls also had the opportunity to learn about the history of the castle and its former resident, the Countess of Dundonald. They learned about the history of Gwrych Castle during World War II when the castle was home to 200 Jewish refugee children as part of Operation Kindertransport.
The girls were excited to be at the setting for of ITV’s ’I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here’ for two consecutive years. The 20th series of the show was one of the most watched TV shows of 2020 During the castle capers event, the girls met a menagerie of fantastic creatures and challenged themselves to try new things.
Girlguiding Cymru chief commissioner Bev Martin said "I would like to thank Girlguiding Cymru team for their hard work and dedication in organising this two amazing event. Girls and volunteers from across Wales had truly unforgettable experiences, which is what guiding is all about! We are all so grateful for their efforts."
Girlguiding Deputy Chief Guide Sally Kettle said "Loved our big day out at Gwrych Castle - joined hundreds of Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, solving puzzles, handling snakes & eating our own weight in hufen ia."

Camping adventures
The Castle Capers camp at Ty Clwyd campsite was a weekend of activities,attended by 100 girls. The activities at camp included gadget building, cricket, campfire cooking, and team building games. The girls also had the opportunity to visit Gwrych Castle for the main event and learn more about its history.
Both events were a great success, and the girls had a lot of fun learning new skills, making new friends, and exploring their Welsh heritage.
