Girlguiding Cymru at the Royal Welsh Show 2024

 A roaring success!

Girlguiding Cymru had an incredible presence at the Royal Welsh Show this year! Over 60 girls and volunteers from Ceredigion, Girlguiding Cymru, and even Girlguiding Falkland Islands came together to make the event a resounding success.

Our members were involved in a variety of roles, contributing to the smooth running of the show. From managing the buggy park and bag drop to providing visitor information and supporting the judging of livestock, our girls and volunteers were busy and enthusiastic throughout.

Highlights of the week

We were thrilled that four of our girls and Girlguiding Cymru Deputy Chief Commissioner, Sarah-Jane Burns, were interviewed by Wynne Evans on BBC Radio Wales. This was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the work of Girlguiding and the positive impact it has on young people.

It was an honour to welcome the Lady President of the Royal Welsh Show to our Girlguiding Cymru tent. She was delighted to meet our girls, many of whom come from agricultural backgrounds, and enjoyed discussing their experiences.

We were also visited by the Welsh Minister for Mental Health and Early Years, Sarah Murphy MS. She showed great interest in our forthcoming Girls’ Attitudes Survey and was impressed by the girls’ insights into how guiding benefits their mental health.

Our new friends from the Falkland Islands

A particular highlight of the Royal Welsh Show was the incredible partnership with Girlguiding Falkland Islands. Their Rangers and leaders joined our Welsh girls, forming an instant bond and becoming an integral part of our team. We were honoured to host them in Wales and showcase the best of Welsh hospitality.

The group captivated audiences with their fascinating talk at the International Pavillion, sharing their unique experiences as part of The Falkland Islands agricultural families. From owning 40,000 sheep to living alongside penguin beaches, their stories were truly amazing.

After a wonderful week together, the girls embarked on a Welsh adventure, heading to Pembrokeshire where they visited a shire horse farm before continuing their journey to Pax Lodge in London. We can’t wait to share more about their exciting experiences.

Our Girlguiding Cymru tent

Our vibrant Girlguiding Cymru tent was a hub of activity throughout the Royal Welsh Show. Visitors flocked to discover the joys of guiding in Wales, visitors were offered fun hair braids and face paints while learning about our organisation. We extended a warm welcome to Girlguiding members from across the UK, rewarding them with exclusive pin badges as a token of appreciation.

The tent buzzed with excitement as visitors stopped by to chat and explore. It also served as a much-needed retreat for our hard-working girls and volunteers, providing a space to relax and recharge between their busy shifts.

Social media queens

The girls and leaders at the Royal Welsh Show took part in lots of social media activity! The girls and leaders created captivating content to share the excitement of the Royal Welsh Show.

A TikTok video showcasing a mouthwatering candy salad has already amassed an impressive 18K views, while another video celebrating the girls’ and leaders stunning camp blankets has been very popular.

We've also filmed an ASMR video at the show, capturing the sounds of the show to induce a relaxing sensory experience. Get ready to feel the tingles when our ASMR video drops!

A massive diolch!

This event would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our volunteers and organisers. We extend our sincere gratitude to Bev from Girlguiding Ceredigion for her invaluable contributions.

We also want to express our heartfelt thanks to the Girlguiding Cymru core RWAS team along with Girlguiding Cymru deputy chief Sarah-Jane whose tireless efforts year after year make this event a reality.

Their commitment to ensuring a fantastic experience for our members is truly inspiring.

Overall, the Royal Welsh Show 2024 was an unforgettable experience. We are incredibly proud of our girls and volunteers for their hard work and enthusiasm.
